JLP+D partnered with SmithGroup on the 2025 update of the Destination Medical Center (DMC) Development Plan in Rochester, Minnesota, home to the Mayo Clinic. The plan advances a 20-year public-private investment strategy to position Rochester as “America’s City for Health,” building on more than a decade of implementation at a critical midpoint for guiding future growth.
JLP+D led the economic and market analysis to support the Mayo Clinic and Rochester’s growing HealthTech industry hub. JLP+D guided infrastructure, real estate, policy, and program strategies in Rochester to support strategic economic growth, elevate the downtown district, and reinforce Rochester’s role as a national leader in health.

Through this work, JLP+D helped DMC quantify the economic opportunities associated with building a broader ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship around Rochester’s economic anchor of Mayo Clinic, through specific sub-sector focus areas. The firm also supported recommendations to shape the public realm and amenities to strengthen local identity and experience, attract talent, sustain innovation, and support long-term economic resilience.
