STOSS Landscape Urbanism

Year
2025 - Present

JLP+D is part of an interdisciplinary consultant team led by STOSS to Reconnect Chinatown, a neighborhood physically disjointed by the Massachusetts Turnpike and Central Artery by urban renewal, with a strategy and design effort that will intertwine vertical development with new green spaces, public realm improvements to increase safety and connectivity, and beneficial community uses. Focused on four priority parcels, the project will address historical harms and support community empowerment.

JLP+D’s work is centered on the financial feasibility of different programs and uses, as well as on the economic and social potential of the project, marrying real estate and economic development with community preservation amidst changing infrastructural and demographic conditions. JLP+D’s analyses highlight the economic and social significance of Chinatown within the regional landscape, identifying opportunities for job growth, innovation, mixed-use development, and a resilient and inclusive economy. A core component is mitigating any challenges related to residential and business displacement and evaluating pathways to preserve and adapt historic assets while utilizing placemaking to increase visitation and vibrancy in Chinatown.
