JLP+D is part of an interdisciplinary team working alongside Perkins and Will and Nelson Nygaard to translate the City's vision for Downtown Orlando into an achievable roadmap for the future. The integral plan aims to transform Orlando's downtown into a sustainable, highly connected, one-of-a-kind downtown full of opportunity for all. A downtown that celebrates its people respects its past and creates a future economy built on innovation and collaboration through the cultivation of its creative, cultural, and outdoor identity. As a part of this effort, JLP+D's primary role is to understand the current economic and real estate conditions in downtown Orlando and create strategies to promote economic development and boost its local housing, retail, workspace, and arts and cultural assets to revitalize Orlando's Downtown.
Specifically, JLP+D is leading the land use component, assessing the real estate market conditions and the economic forces that drive the region and the city's economy, and comparing it to national standards. Additionally, JLP+D is assessing downtown's business community by gathering and analyzing ground floor data, conducting stakeholder interviews, surveying business owners to understand current conditions, and will craft tailored recommendations to attract and retain businesses. Additionally, JLP+D will conduct a governance and management audit, assess the policies and incentives in place, and create recommendations to enhance the Community Redevelopment Agency operations.
